House OKs bill mandating playing of Pinoy music for tourists
Under the said bill, international flights are required to devote at least 50 percent of its piped-in music to Filipino songs, upon landing in the Philippines.
With the aim of promoting the Filipino culture, tradition, values, and character as a people, the House of Representatives approved, 179-0-0, on third and final reading House Bill No. 10305, ‘mandating the playing of Filipino songs hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourist buses, and all inbound international flights coming into the Philippines and providing penalties for violations thereof’, November 29, 2021.
Under the said bill, international flights are required to devote at least 50 percent of its piped-in music to Filipino songs, upon landing in the Philippines.
When ferrying tourists, buses are also mandated to play at least 50 percent Philippine music, while hotels, resorts, and restaurants are obligated to play at least 25 percent from its playlist.
Furthermore, the bill also imposes fines for violations. Airline companies failing to comply with the said requirement will pay a fine of P300,000, while bus operators will face a P50,000-fine for every offense.
Meanwhile, hotels, resorts, and restaurants failing to pay the required 25% Filipino music playlist will pay P20,000 for each offense.
The said bill is set to be sent to the Senate for approval.
