IBP Cebu asks SC to postpone 2022 bar exams

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Cebu Chapter (IBP Cebu) asked the Supreme Court to postpone the bar exams for at least four to five weeks in consideration of the bar candidates in Odette-hit areas of Cebu, the Visayas and Northern Mindanao.

After meeting with the Cebu law school deans, IBP Cebu president Atty. Cheryl Palacao-Condat wrote a letter addressed to 2020/21 Bar Chairperson and Supreme Court Associate Justice Marvic MVF Leonen asking to move or extend the bar exams anew.

“With little power, water, and internet connectivity, the homes of the bar candidates have been destroyed,” the letter read.

According to Palacao-Condat, the bar candidates are struggling for water and fuel during the day and are faced with inadequate light for studying at night.

“This is the predicament suffered by the Cebuano bar takers and those from the rest of the Visayas and Northern Mindanao,” said Palacao-Condat.

The Cebu bar candidates through their law school deans expressed their predicaments to Palacao-Condat just this afternoon who promptly pleaded for the High Court’s consideration.

“The move or extension of the bar exams will give Cebu, its testing centers and bar takers time to adjust to the crisis,” she said.

“We beg the Supreme Court to consider this predicament and find it in its heart to leave no barrister behind,” Palacao-Condat added.
