The MSU College of Law students marked the 24th to 26th days of September on their calendars red in celebration of MSU Law Week 2k21. To be given three days off from academics and to be able to participate in various events, MSU future lawyers had proven once again that they're not just intellectuals with passion for learning, but also mavens of different fields.
September 24, 2021 highlighted the following activities: Editorial Cartooning, Logo Making Contest (for The Advocati, Debate and Moot Society, COMELEC and Legal Aid Clinic) and Essay Writing and among others. Contenders from different year levels queued in line to express their creativity and to show off their talents and skills.
It wasn't just a day to celebrate art, but also a day to reflect on the societal issues, truths, and challenges, which were skillfully embedded in the abstracts and artworks of our contenders. Cartoonists from IL to 5L drew out the present and the future challenges of our political system. All are subject to interpretation but with one common goal: to voice out and highlight the role of justice in these unprecedented times. Out of the seven participants, Arjay Fritz Poncardas bagged the 1st place, followed by Rausela Ruales garnering the 2nd place and Jallilah L. Alindo for the 3rd place, making editorial cartooning look easy, even when that's far from the truth.
Logo making may also be one of the hardest events on Law Week because of its need for originality, artistry and inventiveness; three components that surely paved way for our winners who designed a logo for COMELEC namely: Junette Mae C. Lorenzo (1st Place), Chloebelle D. Guinto (2nd place) and John Froy B. Tabingo (3rd place). A special category for our very own Legal Aid Clinic was dominated by Junette Mae C. Lorenzo (1st place), Chloebelle D. Guinto (2nd place) and Clarence Jane L. Doctolero (3rd place). Colors and figures, frames and images, all incorporated to one work of art. Art, though, doesn't just come in colors and drawings, but also in words.
Edward Bulwer-Lytton in 1839 was the man behind the famous adage, "Pen is mightier than the sword" and his belief has run down to our generation, spawning modern writers who are committed to amplify the truth. With the topic, "History is Written by the Victors vs. History Revisionists," our participants across all year levels gave us a piece of their minds through the power and influence of words. Among 18 papers, three stood out from the rest. The winning title was earned by Czar Lorenzo Abaoag, followed by Sariah Sherida R. Tampac and Sharla P. Baybay, as the second and third placer respectively. S
Day 1 was wrapped up and everyone was eager for more activities the following day where the Quiz Bee and General Assembly took place. The First General Assembly of GenSan Campus was graced by our respected administrators in the college such as, Atty. Habari L. Balt, Assistant Dean, SC Isnira A. Baginda, College Secretary and of course, our Dean, Atty. Annabelle B. Cañazares-Mindalano. Aside from these noteworthy personalities, school policies, school calendar, MSU merchandise and an open forum to address students' concerns were also held, leading to the most-awaited parts of the event, the revival of the college's organizations and rewarding of all law week activities- all for which got their deserving winners and awards.
