The Tanglaw-Diwa Legal Clinic (Tanglaw-Diwa), in collaboration with the Student's Initiative Providing Assistance to the Government (SIPAG) and Dole Philippines, conducted a two-day public legal consultation series entitled “Role of Law” at the Green Valley College Foundation, Inc., on February 17-18 2024.
Throughout the two-day event, the law student practitioners, under the supervision of the supervising lawyers from Tanglaw-Diwa, Atty. Jennifer Dy, Atty. Gerard Oliver Wang, Jr., Atty. Rosaifa Radi-Gandamra, and Atty. Carloz Albert Angelo C. Lozano, offered consultations and lectures covering a wide range of legal topics to the senior high school and criminology students of Green Valley College Foundation, Inc. in Koronadal City.
On the first day, the law students covered the current legal issues such as the People’s Initiative and Separation of Mindanao while on the second day, they discussed the Safe Spaces Act and Cybercrime Prevention Act. They chose the topics that were relevant to the audience. Veerland Dongon, one of the law student practitioners, said that the topics were relevant to the senior high school students due to their engagement on the internet.
“We believe that due to the constant presence of the younger generations in social media, they should be aware of the dangers as well as on how to protect themselves,” he remarked.
The public consultation series is part of the Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP), one of the requirements for law students to take the Bar examination. The said program was anchored under the Practice Court I subject taught by AD Habari Balt, the MSU College of Law - General Santos City Extension CLEP Clinical Director.
